Talk about a birdseye view of the oil spill AP reporter Rick Matthews felt what it was like to be drenched in oil. Just like the birds he had to be scrubbed down for a half hour before he could get back into the boat he described the oil as being as thick as cake batter. Yuck! Good news on the money front for the people getting hammered financially by the spill like the shrimpers, hotel and restaurant owners on the gulf coast BP has agreed to expediate payments.

Besides the Spill, the latest on the bogusness of Financial Reform, a cheap movie review, and that sicko Van der sloot. Throw in your two cents tonight at 800-259-5791.

Andrew Ladd, Patrick KaneCongrats to the people of Chicago this is good news after 49 years the Stanley Cup is back in the Windy City. A 4-3 overtime win sealed in Philadelphia in a wild game six gave the Hawks the Cup. As a Flyers fan it was a rough way to end it all on home turf but I tip my cap to Chicago and can you imagine that parade down Michigan Avenue. We'll talk about in during Sports Shorts on ATN. Plus the latest on the Oil Spill, Terror at Home and women in politics.

Could there be Justice for Natalee next? PDF Print E-mail

Finally the smug Joran Van der Sloot is nailed for killing a young woman only it wasn't Natalee Holloway. Holloway disappeared 5 years ago on a class trip to Aruba and the prime suspect was alway Van der Sloot but thanks to some of his father's connections nothing ever stuck.

This time he's confessed to killing 21 year old Stephany Flores who didn't realize who she was dealing with when she met him at a Casino in Lima, Peru. Sadly, she ended up on hotel floor with a broken neck at the hands of Van der Sloot who confessed to the crime. The maximum sentence is 35 years but it's in a very rough prison which he'll be lucky to survive. I can't think of a more fitting ending for a guy who thought he could get away with another murder. Let's see if he feels like unburdening himself with another confession ending the long drawn out wait for justice for the Holloway family.

Former UCLA coach John Wooden dies

The Master Motivator Former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden dead at the age of 99. Nicknamed the Wizard of Westwood we will never see his record broken of 7 national titles in a row from 1967 to 1973 and a total of ten as the coach of UCLA for 27 years. Here are a few of my favorite Wooden quotes:

"If you're not making mistakes, then you're not doing anything. I'm positive that a doer makes mistakes."

"You can't let praise or criticism get to you. It's a weakness to get caught up in either one."

"It's what you learn after you know it all that counts."

"Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."

Speaking of quotes it was Francesca Schiavone who said the other day that, "Nothing is Impossible." You might be saying who is she? She's the first Italian woman to win the French Open and she did it with style and class beating Sam Stosur 6-4, 7-6.

As for the Oil Spill well it's kind of like standing at the craps table praying for a 7 or 11. So far all the traditional gambles have not paid off for BP from Top Kill to the Junk Shot so what's happening now? Less than a third or  250,000 gallons of the almost 800,000 gallons of oil spilling each day so far has been siphoned out of the Gulf of Mexico needless to say we are beyond words on this one folks. The long term threat won't go away until a relief well is done and that isn't expected to be finished until August. Brace yourself Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida more oil could be headed your way soon. All this more on our next ATN tomorrow night.

After 40 years the Gores say Goodbye. Boy, this is a couple not only with a lot of history but a ton of loot. Al Gore is the King of Green not just environmentally but in the monetary sense it's estimated that he's worth about $100 million dollars. They have a Southern California Mansion, A San Francisco Pad, A Tennesse Estate, A Tudor in Tennesse, a house boat and a farm. This will be harder for the lawyers to sort out then the hanging chads in the 2000 Presidential Election.
