Former UCLA coach John Wooden dies

The Master Motivator Former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden dead at the age of 99. Nicknamed the Wizard of Westwood we will never see his record broken of 7 national titles in a row from 1967 to 1973 and a total of ten as the coach of UCLA for 27 years. Here are a few of my favorite Wooden quotes:

"If you're not making mistakes, then you're not doing anything. I'm positive that a doer makes mistakes."

"You can't let praise or criticism get to you. It's a weakness to get caught up in either one."

"It's what you learn after you know it all that counts."

"Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."

Speaking of quotes it was Francesca Schiavone who said the other day that, "Nothing is Impossible." You might be saying who is she? She's the first Italian woman to win the French Open and she did it with style and class beating Sam Stosur 6-4, 7-6.

As for the Oil Spill well it's kind of like standing at the craps table praying for a 7 or 11. So far all the traditional gambles have not paid off for BP from Top Kill to the Junk Shot so what's happening now? Less than a third or  250,000 gallons of the almost 800,000 gallons of oil spilling each day so far has been siphoned out of the Gulf of Mexico needless to say we are beyond words on this one folks. The long term threat won't go away until a relief well is done and that isn't expected to be finished until August. Brace yourself Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida more oil could be headed your way soon. All this more on our next ATN tomorrow night.

After 40 years the Gores say Goodbye. Boy, this is a couple not only with a lot of history but a ton of loot. Al Gore is the King of Green not just environmentally but in the monetary sense it's estimated that he's worth about $100 million dollars. They have a Southern California Mansion, A San Francisco Pad, A Tennesse Estate, A Tudor in Tennesse, a house boat and a farm. This will be harder for the lawyers to sort out then the hanging chads in the 2000 Presidential Election.

My Flyers are in an 0-2 hole and let's hope they get out before it's too late. I believe they still have a shot at the cup despite the way the Blackhawks are playing. Speaking of too late the oil disaster is all anyone is talking about. Got any ideas on how to plug the leak? Tonight we talk to Steve Wolf, a Hollywood special effects pro has some thoughts on how he and his crew could stop the oil from pouring all over the Gulf. The Gores call it quits after 40 years?? Plus the latest on Israel's raid of a Gaza Aid Flotilla tonight on ATN.

Timeline: Oil spill in the Gulf
Sadly, Operation Top Kills is dead there was just too much flow so now it's on to a new plan. This time BP is trying to lower a marine riser package which means a custom fit piece of equipment to cap off the leak. By the way of what a difference a few thousand barrels can make when it comes to the bottom line now the White House is saying that BP might have intentionally said that the leak was pushing out 5,000 barrels of oil a day because they pay a penalty based on the amount of barrels.

No word yet on the success or lack of if yet on Operation Top Kill. In fact the efforts had to be suspended for 16 hours as the pump was restarted late on Thursday afternoon. Nothing went wrong it's just the engineers needing to monitor the mud to make sure it's doing what is should be doing. So how close is BP to stopping the leak nobody knows at this point it'll probably be another 24 to 48 hours.

Oh and the 5,000 barrels a day was dead wrong and I guess that's where the shaky math part comes into play. Apparently the true estimate is close to 19 million gallons of oil that has been spilled so far which trumps the Valdez. More on the continuing saga in the Gulf of Mexico tonight on ATN.
