Sobbing and sniffling, Mark McGwire finally answered the steroid question but just like the lyrics from an old Carol King song.."It's Too Late Baby", you strung us along when you could have told the truth. For more than a decade McGwire skirted around the questions of steriods. McGwire admitted Monday what many had suspected for so long – that steroids and human growth hormone helped make him a home run king. "The toughest thing is my wife, my parents, close friends have had no idea that I hid it from them all this time," he told The Associated Press in an emotional, 20-minute interview. "I knew this day was going to come. I didn't know when." In a quavering voice, McGwire apologized and said he used steroids and human growth hormone on and off for a decade, starting before the 1990 season and including the year he broke Roger Maris' single-season home run record in 1998. "I wish I had never touched steroids," McGwire said. "It was foolish and it was a mistake." We wish you hadn't either Mark as I was sucked into the homerun circus like everyone else. I even wrote a column in the Arlington Morning News that I had never felt such excitement in The Ballpark in Texas when you came to town. McGwire has been in hiding since his infamous testimony before a congressional committee in March 2005, when he said, "I'm not here to talk about the past." He had been in self-imposed exile from public view, an object of ridicule for refusing to answer the questions. Why come clean now? He was hired by the Cardinals to be their hitting coach and knew he'd have to address the questions before Spring Training. Yes, we can forgive and forget as long as we don't let cheaters like McGwire and others who used steriods into the Hall of Fame. |

A singed pair of underwear with a packet of powder sewn into the crotch is all that remains of al Qaeda's attempt to down an American passenger plane over Detroit. The underwear with the explosive worn by alleged Northwest 253 bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is shown in this photo from ABC News.
The alleged bomb consisted of a packet of powder sewn into the briefs of the 23-year-old Nigerian. Al Qaeda took credit Monday for the attempted bombing, boasted of its ability to overcome U.S. intelligence and airport security, and promised new attacks.
The photo shows the slightly charred and singed underpants with the bomb packet still in place including a ruler to provide scale. Here is the wake-up call America. Join us tonight on the show! |

What started as Sen. Ben Nelson's personal stand against covering abortion with taxpayer money translated, somehow, into millions of dollars in federal aid for his home state -- drawing criticism that his vote was bought. A snowstorm didn't stop the wheels on healthcare reform from turning but will they fall off? Tonight on America Tonight we'll look at the 60 votes now on hand to pass the bill. Tiger Woods was injured in a minor car accident early Friday morning and there are nothing but rumors circulating as to what really happened at the end of the driveway at his home in Florida. He was injured when his Cadillac SUV hit a fire hydrant and tree at 2:25am but the details on the story vary. The accident happened two days after that National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods has been seeing a New York night club hostess. Also for the past two days The Florida Highway Patrol trying to investigate the accident has had no luck in talking to Tiger but to be fair by law he isn't required to speak with them. In this age of blogs and social networking the watercooler buzz is flying as to "what he was doing?" and "why was there no blood on the wheel or in the car if he hurt himself in a car accident?" So many questions that only the man with 82 wins and 14 majors under his belt can answer. |

Do you remember where you were on 9/11? Sadly the wounds are going to be reopened or New Yorkers when professed September 11th Mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four accused co-conspirators are tried in a federal court in lower Manhattan. Attorney General Eric Holder who was grilled by some of the members on the Senate Judiciary Committee says he has every confidence that the nation and the world will see Mohammed for the coward that he is and added "I'm not scared of what Khalid Sheik Mohammed has to say at trial — and no one else needs to be either."President Barack Obama on Wednesday predicted that Mohammed will be convicted and executed, as U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified in the Senate to defend the strategy of civilian trials for the alleged Sept. 11 plotters. In an interview with NBC News, Obama said those offended by the legal privileges given to Mohammed by virtue of getting a civilian trial rather than a military tribunal won't find it "offensive at all when he's convicted and when tthe death penalty is applied to him." New York Democratic Senator Charles Schumer said initial cost estimates he had seen to secure the trials in lower Manhattan would be $75 million a year plus costs for added security around the city and additional police personnel. What about the Bull's-eye that this will put on New York and what about the emotional toll on the families who lost loved ones when the Towers were hit? |
